Paternity Test Father – Child, Test With Mother
The maximum certainty of the test is achieved through inclusion of the mother in the DNA research. The DNA paternity ( Vaterschaftsanalyse) test can produce probabilities of paternity from 99.99% to 99.999999%. The exact value is produced through the test results in the combination of frequently and rarely occurring inherited characteristics which are passed on to the child from the father.
The certainty of the test is not, incidentally, dependant on the nature of the sample material. DNA can be extracted from a toothbrush, a baby’s pacifier, a used paper tissue from blood or from a swab with buccal cells. Hair is not particularly suitable for an analysis of the line of descent.
However, a DNA analysis in Germany can only be performed if all test persons and/or all legal custodians (i.e. mother and father) submit their agreement to the examination in writing, exceptions are not possible. Trace samples therfore are only likely to be analysed if e.g. the alleged father is deceased and only objects of former personal use are available for the analysis.
Similarly to paternity tests, one can also carry out maternity tests. Generally speaking, the DNA paternity test does not involve a gentest, therefore, the investigation of a DNA profile also does not produce information regarding genetic illnesses or properties, for example skin, hair or eye colour.
